This five-star boutique heritage hotel offers luxury and grandeur while keeping the charm and elegance of its bygone era intact. It has a swimming pool and a fine dining restaurant and has been used as a set for several Asian films.
For me, it was the perfect place to spend three nights in Penang.
I booked this last year and was so impressed when I arrived. It reminded me of my stay at Raffles Hotel Singapore in 2015 (when it was kind of affordable). Meyna was friendly and helpful when I checked in and the room was beautiful and spacious.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the Chowrasta market and also the Red Garden Food paradise is next door (people staying on the western side of the hotel – be prepared for night music from this Food court ).
The hotel has an amazing history so please join the tour while you are staying here (free for guests). I didn’t know the Mahjong scene from Crazy Rich Asians was filmed here.
Breakfast is delicious and Jalal offered excellent service and remembered our names. The freshly squeezed juices was a great touch.
The hotel provides earplugs which was useful as the guests upstairs tended to be heavy footed and we could hear their phone ping during the night.
Great to stay here – not sure how long the opportunity will exist as the hotel is UNESCO listed. Book ahead well in advance!
Just Fabulous ~
We stayed a week and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The Blue Mansion is in a fabulous location & Friday evening jazz at Cafe Mangga was a definite highlight. From breakfast (and the ever present help from Jalal), the staff were exemplary. We especially loved being farewelled & welcomed back by the security guard at the gate- truly excellent. The bar staff were equally efficient & accommodating- truly faultless. Another review comments that the pool area isn’t wonderful- while this is true, it was still the perfect place to relax & read in the afternoon. Looking forward to a return visit~
